Fall is slowly arriving

Well, I am noticing yellow leaves on the trail. The light has changed; there's a bend to it that gives it a different effect than before. Summer is waning. It happens this way--slowly but surely. I focused on the alpen glow on a painting this morning and recalled how the cold feels--in the buildings, outside, in the car. It will be here soon!

This summer, we had three sets of guests. One group is still here, the Currottos. All have been good visits. I like all the commotion in the house. Perhaps that is because I grew up with four brothers, a big family by my standards. I wish people would visit here in winter too but I guess that isn't exactly what most folks seek on vacation.

Summer is here?

I'm not complaining, but it sure isn't very "summery" here. Sigh. Wildflowers have adjusted their schedules and so things are blooming later in some places. I've seen only one fireweed in bloom--and it's July 10th. And the flowers in my garden are holding back a bit. I've got marigolds with no gold!

Spring is here!

Well, winter finally ended for us though on April 25, we got almost two feet of snow. But that's all all a memory now. Now, I am on the lookout for protective momma moose though as I write this, I am in Columbus, Ohio. I don't  know what to be on the look out for here, but I am sure I will figure that out soon.

Well, more snow last Tuesday! However, we are wearing our coats and hats to work in the morning but carrying them with us when we leave work. That's how it starts--the change to spring.

Took a silversmithing class this weekend. I made a pin that looks like something a third grader would make, but that's about my level of silversmithing at this point. It was nice to concentrate on something other than work. I was totally immersed in the tasks at hand--truly in the moment. The whole process called for problem solving, sequencing, and of course a sense of design.

I ended up with a little knowledge, a few terms, and some confidence, particularly in my ability to use a blow torch!

Bright Day of the Sunny, New Snow Kind

Hard to believe it snowed most of yesterday. The sun blinds you today because of all the new snow. It's nice to see the fresh snow, squint at the sun, and hear the Bohemian Waxwings.

So have you seen Making Fiends? I find myself wanting to write down what Vendetta says so I can use it later. Click on the link to your right.

Winter Showers of the April Kind

Well, guess what? More snow. The pussy willows are probably shivering right now and the birds are hunkered down. Folks who have been here a while are talking about memories of April snows in the past. I guess we had a big dump way back in the 70s on April 15th. I ran early this morning, just as the snow was starting, and I have to tell you, running while it's snowing makes me feel peaceful. Driving early this morining was another matter entirely. Not peaceful at all!

I crossed paths with a colleague who does not particularly like living in Alaska, and all she could say was, "This was supposed to be the year that spring was early."

April Showers of the Winter Kind

So lots of snow this weekend. Hard to believe that in about five weeks, this place will be green and bright. I skied this morning--It's April 7, and I went for a ski!! More snow might be on its way, which is fine by me. OK, so hate me.
